'Tech-driven change to push growth’

Growth of the Indian economy will depend on transformation through technology and the strength of the country's human resource. In the city to address the annual convention of Lucknow Management Association, former Isro chief and member, Planning Commission, K Kasturirangan said that science and technology form the underpinning of the growth strategy in different sectors, including health, energy and transport.

UP chief secretary Anoop Mishra, while acknowledging the need to ensure the right to health care and education, said that this could be achieved through the use of information technology to automate government services. Citing the successful application of technology in National Rural Health Mission ( NHRM), former Union health secretary, K Chandramouli said the use of GPS-fitted Mobile Emergency Medical Response (GPS), and sick new-born care Units have gone a long way in bettering lives. Accepting that technology played a major role in overall growth, former director of SGPGI, Dr Mahendra Bhandari said India needed simple technologies like Jaipur foot. Technological advancement, Bhandari said, should be based on cost, relevance, acceptability and its impact.
